The Campania regional assembly on
Tuesday approved a regional law to enable centre-left Governor
Vincenzo De Luca to stand for a third term.
The law passed with 33 votes in favour, 16 against and one
abstention.
The Campania law appears to be in conflict with a national law
setting a two-term limit for regional governors.
De Luca has been at odds with Elly Schlein, the leader of the
centre-left Democratic Party (PD), over the issue.
On Monday Schlein said that the national law should be applied
and the PD would not support De Luca if he runs for a third
term.
