A 14-year-old Ukrainian girl whose
elbow was shattered by Russian shrapnel has had the joint
reconstructed in a Florence hospital using 3-D printing surgical
technology.
A personalised titanium prosthesis was inserted into her arm at
the Meyer Paediatric Hospital.
She can now flex her hand again.
The girl is expected to make a full recovery from the
explosion-caused injury, Meyer medical sources said.
Meyer paediatric orthopaedic ward chief Professor Giovanni
Beltrami led the team that carried out the operation.
The surgeon is an expert at using 3D printing to build
prostheses.
