President Sergio Mattarella has
invited new MotoGP world champion Francesco Bagnaia and Ducati
to the Quirinal Palace to celebrate after the Italian rider and
his team wrapped up the championship in the last race of the
season in Valencia on Sunday, ANSA sources have said.
The celebration will take place on November 16, the sources
said.
Bagnaia, 25, sealed victory in the rider's championship with a
ninth-place finish on Sunday, making him the first Italian to
claim the MotoGP title since Valentino Rossi won the last of his
seven premium-class crowns 13 years ago.
It is Ducati's first title since the team triumphed with
Australian Casey Stoner 15 years ago.
It is the first time an Italian rider has triumphed on an
Italian bike since Giacomo Agostini with Mv Agusta half a
century ago.
