Italy got through to the Davis Cup
semi-finals after winning the crunch doubles rubber against the
Netherlands after 22-year-old new star Jannik Sinner won his
singles but Matteo Arnaldi lost his.
The South Tyrolean world number four, who became the first
Italian into the ATP Finals final but lost to Serb great Novak
Djokovic last Sunday, beat Tallon Griekspoor 7-6 6-1 to bring
the match to 1-1 after Arnaldi was beaten by Botic Van de
Zandschulp 6-7 6-3 7-6.
In the decisive doubles match, Sinner and Lorenzo Sonego
prevailed by 6-3, 6-4 over Wesley Koolhof and Griekspoor.
The Azzurri will now meet the winners of the quarter-final
between Serbia and Great Britain, with a rematch between Sinner
and record 24 slam winner Djokovic a possibility.
