Daniele De Rossi is set to stay on as
AS Roma coach, Chairman Dan Friedkin and his son Ryan said in a
statement on Thursday.
The club legend and former Italy midfielder was given the job in
January when Jose Mourinho was sacked.
He signed a contract that runs until the end on the season with
a promise that it would be renewed if he proved up to the
challenge.
He has.
Roma have been in excellent form since De Rossi took over.
They have climbed up the Serie A table to fifth place and look
set to qualify for next season's Champions League.
They also hold a 1-0 advantage from the first leg ahead of
Thursday's Europa League quarter-final return at home to AC
Milan.
"After meeting yesterday afternoon with Daniele De Rossi, we are
delighted to announce he will continue as Head Coach of AS Roma
after this season and for the foreseeable future," the statement
said.
"In his short tenure as Head Coach, the positive impact that his
leadership has brought to the entire club has told its own
story.
"Daniele leads with respect and courage, while his strength and
deep-rooted belief in the club are truly aligned with Roma's
values, city and unparalleled fans.
"We will continue to work together as hard as we possibly can to
deliver a future that AS Roma's fans deserve.
"We couldn't be happier to build a long-term project with
Daniele.
"Further details to follow in the coming days.
"Forza Roma!".
