(ANSAmed) - ROMA, 10 GIU - Jannik Sinner officially rose from
two to world number one Monday while Jasmine Paolini rose from
number 12 to seven after their good performances at the French
Open.
Australian Open winner Sinner, 22, from South Tyrol, is the
first Italian to get the top spot in world tennis and has done
so despite losing in the semi-final at Roland Garros to eventual
winner Carlos Alcaraz of Spain, now the world number three
having overtaken Serb GOAT Novak Djokovic, who moves down from
one to three.
Paolini, 28, got to her first slam final but was outclassed by
world number one Iga Swiatek of Poland, who claimed her fourth
French title and third in a row.
Many pundits are expecting a Sinner-Alcaraz rivalry for years to
come echoing that between the Big Three of Djokovic, Rafael
Nadal and Roger Federer. (ANSAmed).
