Italy's Jasmine Paolini continued her
surprising run at Wimbledon by getting into the last 16 of a
tournament where she had previously not won a match on Friday.
The Lucca-born 28-year-old, whose mother has Polish, Danish, and
Ghanaian roots, and who rose to world number seven after
reaching the French Open final, beat Canada's world number 76
Bianca Andreescu 7-6 6-1 to reach the last 16 where she will
play the winner of Ukrainian Marta Kostyuk, world number 19, and
American world number 13 Madison Keys.
It is Paolini's third grand slam last 16 match this year after
the Australian Open and Roland Garros, where she lost to world
number one Iga Swiatek of Poland in a one-sided final.
Before this year Paolini had never got past the first round at
Wimbledon and had never won a major circuit match on grass
before reaching the semi final at Eastbourne.
