Jannik Sinner remains comfortably at
the helm of the ATP ranking despite losing 400 points after
testing positive to a steroid in March during the semifinals of
the Indian Wells Tournament.
The 23-year-old Italian player was judged innocent due to an
'unconscious intake' of clostebol through a cream although the
300,000-euro prize he won at the competition was withdrawn.
Just a few days ahead of the start of the US Open on August 26,
one of four Grand Slam tournaments, the player retains nearly
2,000 points ahead of Serbia's Novak Djokovic, who will be
defending the title he conquered last year in Flushing Meadows,
New York.
Sinner on Tuesday said he respected world tennis anti-doping
authorities after he tested positive for the banned steroid but
was judged innocent due to an 'unconscious intake' and would now
put this tough period behind him.
