Cardinal Matteo Zuppi, the man Pope
Francis has given the job of seeking paths to broker peace in
Ukraine, on Tuesday called for an end to the "ruthless logic of
conflict" following the Russian invasion.
Zuppi, the Archbishop of Bologna and President of the Italian
Bishops' Conference, praised the pope for having avoided "taking
sides" while also not "failing to acknowledge responsibility" in
relation to Moscow's aggression.
"War is a pandemic. It involves us all," he said at the Italian
Bishops' Conference assembly.
Zuppi referred to the pope's calls for "creative peace efforts"
during his recent trip to Hungary.
