Local leaders and the international
community must work together towards "peaceful solutions" to the
conflict in Sudan that has displaced "millions" and caused a
"very serious humanitarian situation", Pope Francis said on
Sunday.
"For several months now, Sudan has been in the grip of a civil
war that shows no sign of letting up and which is causing
numerous victims, millions of internally displaced persons,
refugees in neighbouring countries and a very serious
humanitarian situation," said the pope during the Angelus prayer
and blessing at the Vatican.
"I am close to the suffering of those dear populations of Sudan,
and I make a heartfelt appeal to the local leaders to facilitate
the access of humanitarian aid and, with the contribution of the
international community, to work towards peaceful solutions," he
continued.
"Let us not forget these brothers of ours who are in
difficulty," concluded the pope.
