German transport and logistics giant
DB Schenker's Italian branch was put into special administration
for infiltration by the Calabrian 'Ndrangheta mafia Tuesday.
The branch, which employs 1,400 people in 37 offices and
generates hundreds of millions of euros in turnover a year, was
placed in the hands of administrators by a Milan court.
It was taken over after prosecutors found evidence of
infiltration by the Calabrian Mob, Italy's richest and most
powerful mafia, police said.
For the same reason, another firm, Aldieri SpA, was also placed
under special administration.
'Ndrangheta, Italy's most secretive mafia, controls the European
cocaine trade.
