Brazil can't extradite former AC Milan
and Brazil star Robinho to serve a nine year term for group rape
handed down in Italy but it can execute that sentence in his
home country, local sources told ANSA Thursday.
Article Five of the Brazilian Constitution prohibits extradition
for any Brazilian citizen apart from exceptions that do not
apply in Robinho's case.
But Rome, which asked to extradited the former player at the
beginning of October, can request his term be served in a
Brazilian jail, the sources said.
The conviction over the gang rape of a 23-year-old Albanian
woman in a Milan night club on January 22, 2013, became
definitive when the supreme Court of Cassation upheld it in
January this year.
The ministry also requested the extradition of one of Robinho's
friends, Ricardo Falco, another Brazilian, in relation to the
case.
Robinho, 38, played for Milan between 2010 and 2014, scoring 25
goals in 108 appearances.
He has 100 Brazil caps and 28 goals for his country.
