China and Italy should get more pout
of the 'New Silk Road', fully implementing a 2019 memorandum on
the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) which has already boosted
ties, Beijing said Wednesday.
Rome is reportedly weighing whether to renew the BRI accession
memorandum by the end of the year amid criticism that it
benefits China disproportionately.
Since the signing of the BRI memorandum in 2019, China and Italy
have increased their relations with "fruitful cooperation and
both sides are expected to further draw on cooperation related
to the New Silk Road'", said Foreign Ministry spokesman Wang
Wenbin in the daily briefing to a question on the press reports
that the Italian government is considering whether to renew the
New Silk Road accession memorandum by year's end.
