Two people with dual Italian and
Egyptian citizenship, Lina Aly and Mohammed Farag, were among
around a dozen people to have been arrested in pro-Gaza
demonstration in Cairo on Tuesday, Amnesty International have
said.
"Several people arrested today by Egyptian security forces while
in Cairo in front of @unwomenarabic headquarters demonstrating
in solidarity with the women of Gaza and Sudan," Riccardo Noury,
the spokesperson for Amnesty Italia, said via X.
"Among those arrested, two, Lina Aly and Mohammed Farag, have
dual citizenship, including Italian citizenship".
The protest was taking place outside the Regional Office for the
Arab States of UN Women, the United Nations entity for gender
equality and women's empowerment.
Noury reposted a message by an human rights lawyer listing the
arrested activists, including lawyers, journalists, and civil
society leaders.
