Deputy Premier and Foreign Minister
Antonio Tajani said Tuesday that he has spoken to Venezuelan
opposition leader Maria Corina Machado after President Nicolas
Maduro claimed victory in last weekend's contested election
there.
Violent protests erupted in Venezuela after Maduro was declared
the winner and Tajani has expressed "many perplexities about the
regular course" of the vote.
"Long phone call with Maria Corina Machado, leader of the
opposition to the Maduro regime in Venezuela," Tajani said via
X.
"I expressed my solidarity and closeness to the Venezuelan
people, hoping that the values ;;of freedom and democracy can
triumph".
