The mother of a 44-year-old Italian-Egyptian porn actor who has been swallowed up by the Egyptian justice system said Friday her son was sick and appealed for help in locating him.
"I am very worried because my son is sick. Help me, he needs me and I need him. I don't know what to do", said the mother of Elanain Sharif, whose whereabouts are not currently known where he is after he was arrested in Cairo on November 9, reportedly after posting 'immoral' images on Facebook.
"He was put in prison as soon as we arrived at the airport" said the mother from Egypt, her lawyer told ANSA.
"I can't know how he is because I can't talk to him and I'm very worried".
The woman explained that her "son has undergone three operations on his back, the last one 30 days ago in London".
Sharif, whose adult film handle is Sheri Taliani, was born in Egypt but has Italian citizenship and lives in the central Italian city of Terni.
The Italian foreign ministry is following the case closely.
Giulio Regeni, a 28-year-old Italian Cambridge university doctoral researcher into Cairo street unions, was allegedly tortured to death between February 25 and February 3 2016 after being detained in Egypt.
Four Egyptian intelligence officers are on trial in absentia in Rome for the homicide.
Sharif's case appears to bear similarities to that of Egyptian researcher, human rights activist and Bologna University alumnus Patrick Zaki.
Zaki returned to Italy last year after being granted a presidential pardon in Egypt in relation to a conviction and three-year sentence for allegedly spreading fake news.
He had been stuck in the north African country since February 2020 following his arrest at Cairo airport while returning from Bologna university, where he was studying, to visit family.
