(ANSAmed) - LISBON, 25 AUGUST- Today kicks off the opening
of Lisbon's book fair, now running its 92nd edition, the largest
and oldest venue in Portugal dedicated to the editorial sector
and literature. The event is organized by the Portuguese
Publishers and Booksellers Association (APEL).
In the past the fair used to be predominantly a national
venue, recently however it partners with another country it
hosts. Last year it was South Korea, this year it will be
Ukraine which will have its own stand and area located in the
Eduardo VII park, where the fair is traditionally held. Here
visitors will have the opportunity to view books in their
original language or translated, with presentations by special
guests and movies.
Among the events in the program, on 10 September there will
be the book presentation of Pilar del Río, the widow of José
Saramago, who will share her husband's life on the isle of
Lanzarote, in the Canary Islands, where the couple moved
together in 1993. The Portuguese Nobel literature prize-winner
died in the Canary Islands in 2010. The book, titled 'The
intuition of the island. José Saramago's days in Lanzarote',
comes with exclusive images and illustrations of Juan José
Cuadrado and a copy of 'the universal charter of the rights and
duties of the human being'. This document was compiled with the
contribution of approximately two thousands experts, in
coordination with the Autonomous University of Mexico and was
inspired by Saramago's Nobel acceptance speech. The speech
stated that there can be no rights without duties. The fair will
close on Sunday, 11 September 2022. (ANSAmed).
