Supporters of Silvio Berlusconi on
Tuesday flocked to the ex-premier's Villa San Martino home at
Arcore, near Milan, to pay tribute to him after his death on
Monday.
The media billionaire's body has been taken to the villa, ahead
of a State funeral at Milan Cathedral on Wednesday, but only
friends and family have been granted access inside to pay their
respects.
Berlusconi's supporters left flowers, flags of his Forza Italia
party and scarves of his beloved AC Milan and Monza soccer
teams.
The media billionaire owned Milan from 1986 until 2017 and, in
that time, they were crowned European champions five times and
won eight Serie A titles on the way to collecting a total of 29
trophies.
In 2018 he took over Monza and, under him, they climbed from the
third tier of Italian football to the top flight.
"Eternal thanks President" read a banner left by Monza fans.
There were also the scarves and shirts of rival clubs, such as
Napoli and Sampdoria.
A banner left by some Juventus supporters read "RIP Immense
Berlusconi".
