A 65-year-old Italian man allegedly
set fire to the car in which his 60-year-old wife was riding and
then, when the woman, covered in burns, managed to get out of
the burning vehicle, he wrestled her to the ground and killed
her with his bare hands in Bari, police said Monday.
The man, a known criminal, was arrested by the police on charges
of premeditated and aggravated murder.
The woman was hospitalized and before dying, she managed to tell
her daughter and the police what had happened.
Turturo told her daughter and the police that her husband
"wanted to kill me", "put his hands around my neck", "closed me
in the burning car", revealing that what had happened before was
not an accident and that her husband, Giuseppe Lacarpia, was
responsible, police said.
The victim's version of events was confirmed by a video made by
a passerby who saw the couple's Fiat Panda X in flames and
stopped to help, thinking it was a road accident, before seeing
and filming the man's brutal aggression against his wife.
