The Czech Republic has decided to
put the name of Industry and Trade Minister Jozef Sikela as a
candidate commissioner for the future European Commission. This
was announced via X by the Czech premier, Petr Fiala. "He
demonstrates competence, he has extensive international
experience, and during his presidency at the European level he
has shown that he can solve problems," Fiala stressed in
explaining his decision. "It is a great honor for me that my
colleagues in government today unanimously agreed that I am the
right candidate for this important role. So I thank them for the
trust, I will do my best to make the most of this opportunity,"
commented Sikela, known in Brussels for his management of the
energy crisis during the Prague-led EU presidency.
