Berlin has earmarked 790,000 euros
for German non-governmental organisation (NGO) Sos Humanity in
support of rescue operations for migrants and refugees in
distress in the central Mediterranean, the organisation's
"land-sea" communication coordinator Lukas Kaldenhoff told ANSA
on Saturday.
Kaldenhoff described the sum as "meagre" with respect to
resources available at European level, and said it was
sufficient to cover just a quarter of SOS Humanity's annual
requirements. On Friday Rome voiced "astonishment" at reports
that Germany would fund work with migrants on Italian territory
and not just at sea and demanded clarification, saying financing
migrant work in Italy would be a grave anomaly.
