According to preliminary data collected by Frontex, the number of irregular border crossings into the European Union decreased by 25% in the first two months of 2025, reaching nearly 25 000.
While most routes experienced a decrease in arrivals, the Central Mediterranean route defied the trend.
The Western Balkans' route experienced the steepest drop
(-64%), Frontex noted.
