"No one in our country is thinking
about the possibility of deploying nuclear weapons in Lithuania.
I do not believe that as of today there is a need to start such
discussions." This was stated in yesterday evening by the
Lithuanian president, Gitanas Nauseda.
"We already have a common nuclear umbrella under NATO that allows us to feel completely safe," the president stressed.
Two days ago the
Lithuanian Defense Minister, Dovile Sakaliene, had said she
believed it was necessary to initiate a debate on whether and
how to host nuclear weapons on Lithuanian territory, should the
need arise.
