Montenegro: presidential elections, duel Vujanovic-Lekic

Only two candidates on april 7 ballot in Podgorica

(ANSA) - PODGORICA - Yesterday the midnight deadline for the submission of signatures in support of potential candidates for the next presidential election on April 7 in Montenegro. As declared to ANSA by a spokesman for the Montenegrin Electoral Commission, only two candidates reached the number of signatures required by law (about 7 thousand). These two will run for president in the small Balkan country (620,000 inhabitants). The two contenders are Filip Vujanovic, President of the Republic in office, running for the Democratic Party of Socialists leaded by the Prime Minister Milo Djukanovic, and Miodrag Lekic, leader of the opposition party "Democratic Front" and former Yugoslav ambassador in Italy.
