More than 425 thousand people
participated in the ten days of events promoted in Trieste on
the occasion of Barcolana 55 presented by Generali. That is the
estimate worked out by the regatta organizers and released today
during a meeting. The figure, underlined by the president of the
sailing society of Barcola and Grignano, Mitja Gialuz, brings
the attendance "back to pre-Covid levels, with numbers perhaps
even higher than in 2019."
Of the 425,000 people who took part on land and sea, 388,000
- according to the analysis conducted by Justonearth (Joe) -
were recorded between October 5 and 8: 62 percent were from
outside Trieste.
As for logistics, according to numbers released by
Trenitalia, 50,224 tickets were sold in 4 days to reach Trieste,
of which only 28,000 were sold on the Sunday of the regatta.
Hotels and vacation homes also sold out the night between
Saturday and Sunday, while in the days immediately preceding the
race, occupancy was over 80 percent.
Over 1,773 boats signed up for the race; 24 nations were
represented by participating owners. Of those noted, 14 percent
were foreigners. Slovenia, Austria, Croatia, Germany,
Switzerland, and Hungary are the countries with the highest
number of participants.
Meanwhile, the organizing team is already working on
Barcolana 56, which will take place in 2024: "We have to work on
the sustainability of the event and the reception, especially in
the docks such as Lido harbor and pier zero," Gialuz added.
