Moldova's parliament has voted to
declare a national state of emergency for 60 days beginning
December 16 due to the risk of disruptions in Russian gas
supplies beginning January 1, according to Reuters online. The
measure was supported by 56 of the chamber's 101 members in a
vote just after midnight. Moldova receives Russian natural gas
via Ukraine, which has announced that it will not renew its
transit agreement with Russian gas giant Gazprom. The contract
will expire on December 31.
