The Basaglia Project, part of the
official program for the European Capital of Culture 2025 and
dedicated to the work of trailblazing psychiatrist Franco
Basaglia, will be presented for the first time in Slovenia this
weekend in Ljubljana.
The event includes the theater performance Quelli di
Basaglia... a 180° and an evening dedicated to Franco Basaglia,
titled Basaglia, beyond the walls. The performance will occur on
Sunday, November 17, at 6:30 PM at the Kulturni Center Španski
Borci in Ljubljana.
Performed by members of the Accademia della Follia from
Trieste, the show tells the story of how the impossible became
possible. It highlights the key milestones of Basaglia's work on
the centenary of his birth, from the dismantling of psychiatric
institutions to the adoption of Law 180. The performance will be
in Italian with Slovenian subtitles.
On Monday, November 18, Basaglia, beyond the walls will be
presented, an evening dedicated to Franco Basaglia, with
institutional greetings by Verena Vittur, Director of the
Italian Cultural Institute in Slovenia, and Stojan Pelko,
Director of the Go! 2025 Program.
This event will be followed by a screening of the documentary
Trieste tells Basaglia, introduced by director Erika Rossi. The
evening will conclude with a roundtable discussion featuring
Alessandra Orietti, Director of the Trieste Mental Health
Center; Mario Colucci, psychiatrist and co-author of two books
on Franco Basaglia; Angela Pianca, Basaglia's collaborator and
