(ANSA) - BELGRADE, SEP 6 - Slovenian survivors of WWII Nazi
and Fascist concentration camps met in Portoroz, in Slovenia,
for their 60th annual gathering on Sunday, the Slovenian news
agency STA reported. The meeting was held under the auspices of
Slovenian President Borut Pahor and the participants recalled
the role of the resistance movement and the approximately 63,000
Slovenians who were sent to German and Italian extermination and
forced labour camps, including 12,100 who died in gas chambers,
STA wrote. In an address to the event, president Pahor
underlined the need for working for peace, tolerance and
solidarity, saying that "everyone should ask oneself how much
and how one can contribute to this," the agency reported.
Italian Senator Tatjana Rojc noted the need of keeping alive the
memory of the past and to show solidarity and help people who
are now fleeing war, proving "what we have inherited from our
survivors." (ANSA).
