Former Albanian Minister of Health
Ilir Beqaj, who served during the first government term of
socialist Prime Minister Edi Rama (2013-2017), was arrested
today in Tirana on the orders of the Special Prosecutor's Office
against organised crime and corruption. Along with him, two of
his collaborators were handcuffed, all suspected of running an
abuse scheme using funds from the Agency for the Coordination of
International Assistance, of which Beqaj was appointed director
in 2021.
