Since 2016, when the first direct
trains between the Port of Trieste and Slovakia were launched,
rail traffic along this route has steadily increased, with over
400 trains operated in 2023 and approximately 27,500 TEUs
handled.
This data was highlighted today at the event "Port of Trieste
- Slovakia: Economic Relations and Opportunities," held at the
Lloyd Tower in Trieste. The initiative underscored the strategic
role of the Central Adriatic Corridor in European geopolitics
and reaffirmed the goal of reaching 500 trains on the
Trieste-Slovakia route by 2025.
The rail connection between Trieste and Slovakia's two main
destinations, Dunajská Streda and Bratislava, currently offers
three and two weekly rotations, respectively. Significant
upgrades are planned in the coming months, as noted in Trieste.
The aim is to reach 500 trains by 2025, tripling the volume
compared to 2017, when there were approximately 150 connections.
