In an interview with Corriere
della Sera, Italian Minister of the Interior Matteo Piantedosi
stated that "the centres" for migrants in Albania "are ready and
will be very useful to speed up the procedures for recognising
protection for those who are entitled to it, but above all for
repatriating those who are not entitled to it." Piantedosiì
stated that the Court of Cassation's recent ruling confirms the
possibility of reactivating the centres, which will be evaluated
beginning with this summit. To those who criticise the
operation's costs, the minister responded that "the allocation
of 650 million over 5 years is a legal forecast of the maximum
possible cost with the structures in operation; it is not
certain that it will correspond to the actual expense."
