The Italian health ministry on
Tuesday told Italy's 20 regions to inform users on the "very
serious" risk posed by the appearance and possible spread of
fentanyl after the synthetic 'zombie drug' that has ravaged the
USA was found for the first time in a cut heroin dose in the
Perugia area a few weeks ago.
A note from the Ministry of Health signed by Prevention Director
Francesco Vaia was sent to the Regions to signal the raising of
the alert for fentanyl in Italy to level 3 after it was
identified in the street heroin near Perugia.
The note asks the Health Departments of the Regions and
Autonomous Provinces to urgently send the information to the
Addiction Departments and the Public Addiction Services (SerD)
of the Aasslls local drug treatment bodies, and to the
Therapeutic Communities and socio-healthcare personnel of the
Aasslls to "inform substance users of the very serious health
risks".
