Premier-designate Carlo Cottarelli will return to see President Sergio Mattarella again Wednesday morning, presidential councillor Giovanni Grasso said after the PM-designate updated the head of State on the political situation for three quarters of an hour Tuesday.
Cottarelli did not, as expected, present his list of ministers for an interim government to steer Italy to fresh elections later this year.
Cottarelli simply needs more time to assess some issues linked to his list of ministers and no one has spoken about his giving up his mandate, sources at President Sergio Mattarella's office said Tuesday.
There is growing support for a July 29 general election, meaning Cottarelli will gauge support for this before reporting back to the head of State.
Cottarelli said Tuesday "we are looking into some issues regarding the list of ministers, but it won't take long".
