Italy's Audit Court said Wednesday that tax cuts "can no longer be postponed" given the economic earthquake caused by the coronavirus emergency.
The State auditor also called for a rapid strategy to regain sustained growth levels.
The court said the current State budgetary expansion was necessary.
But it also stressed that the more the government is committed to using the extra spending to overcome the economy's structural weaknesses, the greater the credibility to be able to have a higher debt-GDP ratio.
It said tax cuts should target labour, pensions and businesses as the high tax burden could hold back the recovery.
