A Turin court on Monday convicted
Deputy Economy Minister Laura Castelli of defamation for a
Facebook post criticising centre-left Democratic Party (PD)
candidate at 2016 local elections Lidia Roscaneanu, who is of
Romanian origin.
Many sexist and racists insults appeared underneath the post.
Another two defendants were also convicted, three others
acquitted, and another six will g on trial in January in a
fast-track trial.
Castelli, a member of the populist 5-Star Movement (M5S), was
also fined 1,032 euros and ordered to pay civil damages of 5,000
euros.
