Italy's annual inflation rate for
April is 6.2%, down from 6.5% in March, according to a
preliminary estimate released by ISTAT on Friday.
If confirmed in the definitive figure, it will be the first fall
in the annual inflation rate after nine months of rises.
"The slowdown on annual basis of all-item (consumer price) index
was mainly due to the prices of energy (from +50.9% to +42.4%),
specifically to those of both regulated (from +94.6% to +71.4%)
and non-regulated energy products (from +36.4% to +31.7%)," the
national statistics agency said.
ISTAT said its consumer price index was up by 0.2% in
month-on-month terms.
