President Sergio Mattarella stressed
the role Italy's defence policy has in promoting peace in a
message sent Wednesday to Army Chief of Staff Pietro Serino for
the 161st anniversary of the foundation of the armed force.
"The defence policy based on our Constitution stresses Italy's
peace vocation, as shown by the participation in multilateral
bodies and the international alliances it joined after the
Liberation (from Nazism-Fascism)," Mattarella said.
The head of State also expressed gratitude to the Army for the
work it is doing "in an international context characterized by
serious threats to peace and the stability of our continent".
