Relatives of victims of COVID-19 in
the province of Bergamo on Wednesday described as a "slap in the
face" the decision by the Court of Ministers in Brescia to
dismiss the positions of former premier Giuseppe Conte and
former health minister Roberto Speranza, who had been placed
under investigation by prosecutors in Bergamo for their alleged
mismanagement of Italy's first phase of the pandemic.
The decision "is a slap in the face to us and to the whole of
Italy, which deserves a more transparent political and judicial
system," said members of the #Sereniesempreuniti association of
victims' families.
"We are uncompromising over what has been done by the Brescia
Public Prosecutor's Office and Court of Ministers: the decision
to shelve the case is an insult to the memory of our relatives,
yet another gag in an Italy corroded by the code of silence that
we have always fought against," added the group, saying they
would take the issue to the civil courts.
"We are disappointed and bitter," they said.
