Shabbar Abbas, who is accused of murdering his 18-year-old daughter Saman in Novellara near Reggio Emilia in April 2021 with other family members after she refused an arranged marriage with another man in Pakistan, was extradited to Italy on Thursday, the Pakistani interior ministry has told ANSA.
"A special Italian Air Force plane has landed in Islamabad. It will take Shabbar Abbas back to Italy at 1.55 am," an interior ministry official said.
The Pakistani interior minister on Tuesday granted the extradition of Shabbar Abbas after an Islamabad district court judge upheld request for his extradition to Italy in July.
The Italian authorities had requested that Abbas be extradited on charges of killing Saman on the night between April 30 and May 1, 2021, near the northern town of Novellara together with four relatives including his wife, Nazia Shaheen, the only suspect who is still at large.
Justice Minister Carlo Nordio said later Thursday that Abbas was on his way to Italy.
Reggio judicial sources said he would arrive at Rome's Ciampino Airport in the early hours of Friday before being taken first to a jail in the capital before being transferred to Reggio.
