Th extradition from Pakistan to Italy of the father of Saman Abbas, an 18-year-old Pakistani-Italian woman allegedly killed by her family at Novellara near Reggio Emilia in April 2021 after refusing an arranged marriage in Pakistan, is a step forward for justice, Premier Giorgia Meloni said Thursday.
"The extradition from Pakistan of the father of Saman Abbas, who is accused in Italy of the savage murder of his daughter, is an important step forward in allowing justice to take its course," she said.
"It is the result of the great and constant determination shown in this delicate and complex case by all the Italian authorities.
"Determination, work and commitment that have borne fruit and which, together with the cooperation shown by the Pakistani authorities, now allow us to achieve this significant goal".
The man, Shabbar Abbas, is set to arrive on a flight from Islamabad at Rome's Ciampino Airport in the early hours of Friday morning, after which he will be briefly held in a Rome jail before moving on to a jail in Reggio.
His wife and Saman's mother Nazia Shaheen is the only suspect who is still at large.
Abbas allegedly killed Saman along with her uncle, two cousins, and his wife.
