Over 100,000 people spent Italy's
Ferragosto national holiday on Thursday visiting cultural sites,
museums and archaeological parks, the culture ministry said
Friday.
The most popular locations chosen by tourists and locals were
the Colosseum (22,447 visitors) and Roman Forum (14,936) in
Rome, the archaeological park of Pompeii (14,837) and the Uffizi
Gallery (10,567) in Florence, the ministry said.
Other cultural landmarks that attracted a high number of
visitors included the Pantheon in Rome (9,432 visitors) and the
Galleria dell'Accademia in Florence (7,997).
