Pope Francis said Monday that
"investing in the essential helps us take control of our lives",
turning them into a "tool of love, mercy and compassion".
The pontiff urged "everybody to become responsible protagonists
of change" in spite of the "temptation of discouragement, the
complexity of the current crisis and, in particular, the
challenge of peace which appears impossible" in a message,
signed by Vatican Secretary of State Cardinal Pietro Parolin,
sent to the organisers and participants of the upcoming Rimini
Meeting for 'Friendship Among Peoples' opening on Tuesday.
"This unanimous commitment can generate a new world", he added
in the message to lay Catholic activist group Comunione e
Liberazione (Communion and Liberation, CL) behind the meeting,
which has reached its 45th edition.
The event runs until August 25.
