At least 20 passengers, including 10
Italians, were injured in a bus accident near the ancient Inca
town Machu Picchu, in Peru, Italian foreign ministry sources
said Tuesday.
The Italians are hospitalized in Cuzco with multiple fractures,
and three are in serious condition but none in life-threatening
condition, they said.
Italy's embassy in the Peruvian capital Lima, in close contact
with the Italian foreign ministry and local authorities, is
assisting the Italian tourists involved in the accident and
their families, foreign ministry sources told ANSA.
Peru's national police published a list of the 10, with their
injuries:
Luciana Bonfada, 35, (facial fracture); Angelo Florile, 33
(multiple injuries); Giorgio Quiagliaroli, 47 (fracture of right
leg); Dario Florio, 46 (multiple injuries); Gabriela
Cristoforini, 48 (leg fracture); Elisabetta Panzeri, 44
('psychosomatic' fracture); Paolo Daledo, 38 (right leg trauma);
Greta Raimondi, 35 (right leg trauma); Fabio Ficci, 36 (right
hand injury); Matteo Vigano, 33 (multiple injuries).
Other foreign ministry sources put the number of Italians
injured at 13.
