Ex-premier and former ECB
President Mario Draghi on Tuesday defended one of the main
proposals of his new report on boosting the EU's
competitiveness, extending the bloc's joint debt, as he
presented the report to the European Parliament.
"If we oppose the construction of a true single market, the
integration of the capital market and the issuance of common
debt, we oppose our EU objectives," he said.
"The common debt is not for general public spending or for
subsidies, but in order to achieve the fundamental objectives
for our future competitiveness, which we all have already agreed
on".
