Italy legends Roberto Baggio and Roberto Mancini on Wednesday paid tribute to Totò Schillaci, the striker who lit up the 'magic nights' of Italia 90 by top scoring with six goals and who has died from cancer aged 59.
"Ciao dear friend, this time too you have decided to surprise me," said Baggio, who starred in the Azzurri team that went out in the semis to Diego Maradona's Argentina, eventual runners up to Germany.
"The magical nights of Italia 90 will forever remain imprinted in my heart, which we lived together," said the Divine Ponytail.
"Brothers of Italy forever".
Mancini, who was in the Italia 90 squad but did not play and later became Italy manager, said "dissolve madness in a hug, Magical Nights seeking a goal under the sun of an Italian summer," quoting the trademark song of Gianna Nannini and Edoardo Bennato.
