Defence Minister Guido Crosetto on
Friday said a military mission in the West Bank is being
carefully evaluated.
A delegation of the Italian Defence's operational command of the
interforce summit has visited Jericho, in the West Bank, for an
inspection to verify the logistical conditions to reopen the
mission as part of the MIADIT operation suspended a year ago.
"We are carefully evaluating the military mission in the West
Bank, we will never send a single person without first
considering security conditions", said Crosetto.
"The mission must be wanted by all sides involved, all actors
must know that the Carabinieri go to do something useful, to
form a context to build the future, which is two peoples and two
States", Crosetto said during a visit to Kosovo.
The possibility of deploying 200 Carabinieri officers in Jericho
and also extend the mission to Gaza is under evaluation,
well-informed sources have said.
