Italian cities including Rome, Milan,
Florence and Venice have set crowd limits and imposed firework
bans for New Year's Eve celebrations.
Fireworks will however be permitted in Naples, the southern city
which usually has the highest injury and sometimes death toll
and where the Sinner Bomb has this year joined other
high-explosive devices like the Maradona and Bin Laden bombs.
Milan has set up red zones where criminals and disturbers of the
peace will be off limits, while Bologna has also set limits on
crowd numbers in its historic piazzas.
Animal rights groups have hailed the firework bans.
Italian police are stepping up their sweeps confiscating illegal
fireworks including the bombs made in Naples.
