A nine-year-old Italian boy, Mattia
Cossettini, has died in the Egyptian resort town of Marsa Alam
while on holiday with his parents.
The family, who are from the Friuli town of Tricesimo near
Udine, had travelled to Egypt on January 2 and were supposed to
return to Italy on Thursday.
Local authorities have opened an investigation into the death of
the little boy to determine its cause and possible delays in
diagnosis and treatment.
Medical sources say the child could have died from a brain
hemorrhage.
According to preliminary information, the boy fainted during a
boat excursion and was taken to the resort's doctor who treated
him for a heat stroke.
A few hours later, however, his condition deteriorated and his
parents decided to take him to a local hospital, where he died
shortly after his arrival.
