We must work with determination to
conclude an agreement on the reform of our fiscal rules by the
end of the year, European Commissioner for Economic Affairs
Paolo Gentiloni said during the presentation of the Summer 2023
Economic Forecast in Brussels on Monday.
Italy has been dragging its feet on reform of the EU's Stability
and Growth Pact containing the rules of economic governance,
insisting that it needs to focus less on stability with strict
fiscal rules and more on growth.
However, last month Economy Minister Giancarlo Giorgetti said he
hoped the reform of the Stability Pact will be approved by the
end of the year so that it can
enter into force in place of the old rules from January 1, 2024.
