Business and Made in Italy Minister
Adolfo Urso said Thursday that the government could talk about
the State taking out a stake in carmaker Stellantis if CEO
Carlos Tavares wants.
"If Tavares or others believe that Italy should do like France,
which recently increased its share capital within the
shareholding of Stellantis, ask us," he said at transport
ministry talks on the automotive sector responding to a question
about an interview given by Tavares to Bloomberg.
"If they want active participation, we can always discuss it."
The incentive plan for the automotive sector "is based on the
conviction that we must absolutely change course from what has
happened in recent years," Urso went on.
"If the trend does not change this year , despite the
substantial resources we are putting in place, we will allocate
the additional resources of the Automotive Fund exclusively to
support our supply chain and to incentivise new production
plants in our country".
Tavares has said Italian plants are at risk unless the group
gets State subsidies.
